Privacy

Simple, plain-language privacy

We believe your PDFs and annotations are your business. LeedPDF is private by design.

Desktop and iPad apps

No data leaves your device, at all. The Windows, Mac, and iPad apps have no telemetry, no analytics, no usage tracking, and no accounts. Nothing is sent anywhere. Your PDFs, annotations, and exports stay entirely on your device.

Web app: what we collect

Privacy-first analytics: The web version uses cookieless Vercel Analytics and privacy-focused PostHog analytics to improve it. EU users (and those we can't locate) see a consent banner and can decline completely—the web app works perfectly either way.

Local by default

Your PDFs and annotations stay on your device. When you open a file, it’s processed locally. In the web version, your files are handled in your browser—no server-side processing.

Optional web features

Some features of the web app use trusted third-party services:

  • PDF Sharing: Uses Appwrite cloud storage (secure, encrypted)
  • File Import: Optional Dropbox integration for convenience

All integrations are optional and clearly labeled. Your files are only shared when you explicitly choose to use sharing features.

Open source transparency

The entire codebase is open source. If you’re curious about how something works, you can read the code—or ask the community.
